Department actively engages women faculty members and researchers to increase gender diversity among the department's academic and research landscape. This is substantiated by the engagement of good number of female staff (permanent and contractual) in th Department. Good number of Female Research Scholars are offered scholarships to support their education and research endeavors.

The department maintains zero-tolerance policies for discrimination, harassment, and bullying based on any form of diversity. Clear guidelines and reporting mechanisms are provided to ensure that incidents are promptly addressed and that individuals feel safe and supported within the department.

Students and employees are sensitised 'to the constitutional obligations:values, rights, duties and responsibilities of citizens through Departmental Interactions, Workshops, Seminars or guest lectures oragnised by different organs of the University of Kashmir. Moreover, wide publicity was given to the initiative on promotion of Electoral participation and litracy among youth under the Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral participation (SVEEP). Through this programme awareness was created about voting among students and its benefits in strengthening the spirit of democracy in the country

Two best practices successfully implemented by the Department
|
1. Engaging students in full semester projects with real-world applications and local relevance. To optimize the effectiveness of such projects, it's important to provide adequate support and guidance to students throughout the process, including clear project objectives, regular check-ins, access to resources, and opportunities for reflection and feedback.
2. Encourage full semester projects and research progarmmes that incorporate emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), or cybersecurity. These technologies not only engage students with cutting-edge concepts but also prepare them for the demands of the evolving tech industry.

The department has State-of-Art AI Server (DGXA100) which helps faculty, scholars and sudents
to enagage in cutting-edge research and iinovation in the filed of emerging technologied likeMachine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural language processing, and computer vision to tackle issues such as healthcare accessibility, environmental sustainability, poverty alleviation, and education equity. For example, our faculty and research scholars have developed AI models for early disease detection.
